Thanks for the help and compliments, this is the first 87 I've had and I hate the lockout converter. A buddy told me you could put a toggle switch on them but I have not found out how yet, has anyone done this? If so can you tell me the wire to put the switch on. Thanks, Jerry

I had to put a toggle switch in my truck otherwise it would lockup as soon as I reach 4th gear at 40 mph (1250 rpm) and the engine hates it.  There is a wire that goes from the trans, to a vacuum switch on the firewall (near the brake booster), and then into the cab to a switch at the brake.  I simply cut it at a convenient location and put in a 15A SPST switch.  When the switch is closed it's free to lockup, when it's open, it is forced unlocked.  No problems so far.  But you shouldn't want to eliminate lockup altogether.  It's great for highway cruising.

Thanks for the tip, did you cut the wire inside the truck cab or under the hood. Also do you recall the wire color? Thanks, Jerry

Thanks for the info on the dye and carpet Chris, do you know if ACC sells flat pieces of matching carpet? I would like to cover my sub box to match the carpet I order.

I cut it in the cab, nearest the brake switch and mounted the switch through a hole I made to the right of the steering column.  On my truck the wire is light blue.

Just a thought on the whole TCC lockup bypass switch thing.  My mod was to a carb'd model.  If you're truck is TBI, the wiring will likely be different.  Not only that, but the TCC may be controlled entirely by the ECM (not sure about this).  So you may want to ask a pro (which I am not) before cutting away.
