60-66 chevy trucks

I've always wanted a 66" just because it the year I was born. Thought it would be cool to have a truck as old as me.

i like them, get it if you can. there is a 64 or 65 that i pass everyday to and from work. it is a 4WD and has a hoist in the box. it just sits outside in front of a shed. im gonna nab it if i can.

1966 Chevy was a good truck, great styling!  See if it comes with power steering and power brakes.  If not, plan on upgrading.  Front Disc brake conversion is a popular upgrade on those early '60s trucks.

I will have to check on the ps and pb. I have personally not seen this truck, he just said 6 cyl and 3 on the tree so I assumed it was a 230 ci and a long bed fleetside. Thanks for the link too.

I actually do like the styling of these trucks, I would almost venture to say that if I got it I would be the only person in town driving one as I have never seen one in my town.

This coming weekend is when I'm going to look at it so if I do end up getting it I will post some pics.

I doubt seriously it has power brakes or power steering. I dont think I have ever seen one with it, unless it was aftermarket, and definately not disc brakes. More like armstrong steering, and lead foot stopping. I had a 64 longbed with a 455 olds that was a blast, but my favorite was a matte black 66 Chvy short stepside. Had a 283 w/ 4 on the floor, and would smoke the 30x10.50s like nobodies business, and knockout 18mpg if I behaved. I like them, but the 73-87's , and 47-55s are my favorites. Heres my other baby

Different opinions are what makes the world go round. I personally like the 60-66 trucks they are my 2nd favorite body style. They look good restored original and they look great as a wild custom. If I had a chance to buy one I would. So I say go for it and swap.

My 51 is my baby. I was buying a 49 from a guy when I was 14, about the time I had it paid for,we left my stepdad. I had all the beatings I could take. So, I had to sell it back to the guy I was buying it from. He was a great guy to just give me my money back, no problems. Said he knew what was going on. We neede the money to rent a house for a couple on months til mom could get back in the wokr force. I wanted that truck so bad, and searched for one for years. I bought this on from my father inlaw for $2500, put a battery in it, some tires, and have been driving it every chance I get.

I will take the chance of being stoned here! The 64 / 66 are my favortie body style Chevy trucks. I do like the Chevy's better than the GMC's though. I have had a 64 C 20 Step side, 283 with a 2 speed power glide. And a 66 K 20 step side, on a 78 chassis. I also had a 62 GMC with a 230 six and a three on the tree.

Now that '51 is an example of my absolute favorite Chevy truck body style.  That's one fine machine choptop.  Have any plans for her?

Hmmm... actually, you could get a 1966 C10 with power steering from the factory.  I think it was more like "power-assist" than true power steering, but it was an option.  Alot of these early 1960's trucks were ordered bare-bones with very little options (like radios).  Not much different than a 1973 Chevy "Custom Deluxe" model with no radio, headliner, cargo light, etc (I know, because I own one!).

Well, being I have issues following the crowd, I am planning on dropping it but will be using a drop front axle instead of welding in a camaro from clip or using an s-10 chassis. I have an airbag sysem design for the straight axle, but dont know if I'll put it on. Im going to leave it 6 lug all the way around, but update the rear axle to get rid of the tube. I will have the stock 16 inch wheels widened a little and go with some big whitewalls, drag slicks in the back. Power wise, I am putting a 327 in it, but I will be using factory valve covers and ssuch to make it look like a 283, and using era correct engine color. The main purpose os to make it look like it came from the factory with the v8, and leave the three on the tree. It has a 235 in it now, runs great, so I am debating putting two dueces, and split exhaust on it instead of the 327, but with my power addiction, I dont know. That and the fact I can rebuild the 327 for what its going to cost for the twin duece and split exhaust setup for the 6.

   I am also like Blazin, I prefer the Chevy's to the GMCs. I never liked the way the hood looked on the GMCs or the grille for that matter. But, I didnt really care for the 60-61s style hood. What were they thinking?

Keeping it old school.   It is cool when someone takes an old truck and builds it to look like it was customized when it came out. I like the idea of the dropped stright axel instead of the front clip. I also like the idea of the two dueces and the split exhaust on the 235 but the power of the 327 would be nice.

I'd keep the 235.  Pickup a set of headers from Clifford and update the ignition.  What about a wicked trio side draft Webers?  You'll never convince me that an SBC came factory in a '51 pickup, lol.
