82 bumper marker/signal harness
« on: January 08, 2009, 06:53:08 am »
my passenger side front bumper marker/signal bulb hasnt worked for who knows how long i just noticed it the other day, so i stopped at autozone to get an 1157, i pulled the old bulb out and it was corroded and oxodized pretty badly, new bulb wouldnt work after installing it, cleaned socket with some carb cleaner (haha i know) let it dry, still no workie, tried a little bulb grease, no dice. it wouldnt be so bad, but it made my rear and side turn signals stop working, and i hate having to let people know im turning by clicking the turn signal manually....

anyone know if the "universal" 1157 socket autozone carries will turn into the light housing correctly? (you know how you put it in place, and turn it and it locks to keep it from falling out), or know of anyone that carries the socket that will work?

a guy at work swears by napa, but the nearest napa is like 30 miles away.

Not sure on Auto Zones but have had other aftermarket ones work fine. What about a used one from a parts truck? I used one from a 95 Ford van in one of my trucks. Had to trim the ears on the socket a bit but it worked also had to use the push in style bulb.

Did you try to install it the wrong way?  There is a high and low prong on the build...

Yes do you have one of the bulbs inside with ya ? Look on the side the two pins that stick out you will see they are offset. When you do go out look at the socket and you will see they too are off set just put it in with the pins lined up to the right slots

its cause if I'm not mistaken the wrong bulb you don't need an 1157 it has off set pegs thats why it no work. you need i believe the 1057 it is a one filament bulb with parallel pegs. now there is a pretty good chance I'm wrong but look at the old bulb or the other one thats on the other side. I'm going to feel like a jackass if I'm wrong lol but anyway I'm sorry if i am. never liked those bumper so i always got rid of them so i never changed it

i dont like it either its got the push bumper "fangs" but i hate having to do my turn signal manually more. this summer when work slows down and i have some free time replacing its more of a possibility. but for now her only job is to get me back and forth to mine.

ok i bought the universal gm socket from o'reilly's its the same one autozone carries, i just dont shop at autozone if i can help it.

its almost identical, except when you twist the socket into place inside the houseing, it doesnt lock. it goes in tight, so i doubt it will come out, but just a heads up. other than that works perfectly.
