'86 Silverado Hood Ornament

My truck has this ornament on it.  Is this original to it?  Seems weird, if it is.

That's what I thought.  This is a nice original truck but it had this ornament on it when I got it.  I remembered my old roommate had an early 70's Monte Carlo with a hood ornament like that and it struck me as weird.  Thanks.
