this has to be a joke
« on: February 05, 2009, 06:13:08 am »
In Maryland it is NOT against the law to change lanes without a turn signal.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/traffic/bal-te.regionalbriefs041feb04,0,5791628.story

A bill has just been introduced to get it to be a law.

http://mlis.state.md.us/2009rs/billfile/HB0067.htm

I saw this , this morning and thought the article had to be a 100 years old.
So now when people cut me off with out a signal I cant get mad since they are not breaking the law.
I am still astonished that this is not a law .

that is surprising, but you wouldn't think that was the law anywhere else the way people drive.  Besides if people always used their signals while changing lanes, there would be no need for train horns ;D

hockeypuck!   If someone cuts you off, that is illegal--it's called wreckless driving or at least improper driving, and I know Md has that law.   Whether they use their signals may be a different story, but, all cars have signals and it is out of common courtesy, law or no law, to use them. You can still get mad.

It's not illegal to close a door in front of a 90 yr old woman, but, If someone goes through a door prior to an old lady, and doesn't hold the door for her, I will be mad.

Driving on the beltway around D.C. for 4 yrs as I was going to GMU in Fairfax, I wouldn't beleive anyone had signals.  I learned some aggressive driving techniques from those years driving that racetrack, I mean, Capitol Beltway.

Ha, yeah... the beltway in D.C. is like driving the German autobahn, only without the courteous drivers!  You'd think you were in the middle of a rally race.   :o  When I was stationed at Langley AFB back in the day, I had to get a faster car just to drive the capitol beltway and keep up with the traffic flow.  A 1975 Pontiac Trans AM with the 455 super-duty big block.  Man I miss that car.  :(

Also, nitrous is, i believe, 100% illegal here.  Does not matter if unhooked or not.

We need to find a way to check this;  My lawyer has the book, but i don't want to bug her as i don't have any true intention to use nitrous---any time soon that is.

Just something else to think about.

What i meant to type was, it is also legal here to pass on the right.

Then, we can discuss the nitrous situation.

Not sure on the nitrous

But passing on the right, I dont like to but when you have someone in the left lane doing 10 to 20 mph BELOW the speed limit while the right lane is clear I will do it, as you know Stewart MD drivers are not the most courteous..

The reason the Autobahn in Germany is the safest highway in the world, yes, safest in the world, is because the German police strictly enforce the law about traveling in the right-most lane, unless you pass someone.  If you aren't passing someone and are traveling in the left lane, you will have your license suspended and the fine is equivalent to several THOUSAND U.S. dollars.

That is why the speed is unlimited and it is the safest in the world. People don't have to weave in and out of traffic.

Well the speed is not always unlimited but when it isnt you wont see many people speeding the do a rolling speed system, cops (polizei) at the speed limit take all lanes. Also a cop tells you do to something once and that is it they can use what ever force after telling you once. There nightsticks are spring loaded they swing it once and it will hit ya like 10 times (dont ask how I know :) ) . I lived in Germany for 4 beautiful years

I'd have to say that is one of the things that P's me off. No turn signals and also not turning while in a turn only lane. Ok two things. If you have your signal on, turn. If you don't, stay in your lane.

There are two intersections about 30yrds from one another. The people in the left(turn only) lane sometimes go straight through to the next intersection so they don't miss that light. That make it very difficult for the people that are trying to get over the make the left turn at the next intersection.

SgtDel as a man of the law I'm sure you meant "assertive" driving?  ;D

Most Motorways/Freeways here have 3lanes. Lane 1 should always be used unless overtaking. The favourite trick is people come onto the 3lane carriageway and going straight into lane 2!! Me being a couteous driver has already moved from lane 1 into lane 2 to give them access in the 1st place! Dont get me started, I see all sorts especially driving 50k miles a year on a tiny Island lol
