15 or 16 ?

Hello all ..

I am working on an '83 K15 Stepside ... I did a suspension 2' lift and shopping for a Wheels/Tires set ..
I am in a dilemma ... whether I go for a 15" wheels or the 16" on 33" tires ?

Some of my pals say that I should go for the 16" since there are lots of neat tires !! .. and 'coz its the new millennium !!!!!!!! :)

I decided I will go with what U say guys ...  so let me hear it ..

I personally like 16's.  I like more of an equal proportion of rim to tire.  I dont like a lot of sidewall.

I didn't get what U say 'bout the sidewall  ??? Should I look for a tire with low sidewall ??

I like 33's with 15's, are you going to do alot of highway or offroad driving?

You know how a stock tire looks on a stock rim?  If you increase the tire size, I like to increase the wheel size to kind of get a comparable look.  Tires are something that are all preference as long as they work for you application.  It is all a matter of what you want and like.

It will see some highway driving occassionaly ( as far as 80 Miles )..
but mostly it will be used around the city ... and to get me to my favorite fishing spots ( sanddunes + mud )

that big of a tire 16's!  there are more options for rims if you havent already picked them out, and it will just look better.

I agree... 16's look better because you don't have a ton of sidewall...

BTW, if you do go with a 16-incher the sizes are different: You'll want a 285/75/16, its the equivalent of a 33-inch-tall tire. That's whats on my truck, if you want to see what it will look like.

I also like the 16's better.

BTW, I also have 285/75R16 like you, 79K20. Mine are Bridgestone Dueller A/T:s. As about 33"x11.3", they are a little bit taller than an ordinary 33's. I think they are perfect! Just like yours, w/ my zero-offset rims they don's stick too far out either, but look pretty flush with the fenders.

A friend of mine has brand new set of 16" wheels .. yet tires for this size are almost $100 a piece than the 15s

79K20.. I do have an access to Maxxis, BFs and Cooper downhere .. I dunno if they'll look as good as your tires on a stepside ?

I only said 16's because of how you are going to be driving it.  mostly onroad.
A 16 will give less sidewall (flex) for the same comparable 15" and therefore less flex while driving around curves etc.  I would go bigger possibly depending on what size I wanted under the truck.  Example running 37's I wouldn't run them on 15''s if I was going to drive it on the road, I would get 17's at least

Yeah, 16's are always going to be more expensive, due in part to the fact that they are usually rated for higher loads (Load Range D or E; 8 or 10-ply sidewalls, instead of the typical 15-incher with only 6 measly plies).  $100 more per tire seems high, but The stiffer sidewall also equates to better "feel" and less wandering on the highway... Yet another plus for the 16's.

Also, keep in mind that the 16's are usually constructed of a firmer rubber compound and, therefore, you will usually get more miles out of them.
 
And, Ghazi, I definitely think the 16's will look sweet on a stepside... A friend of mine has 285/75/16's on a K10 stepside and it looks awesome. I will try to find a pic so you can see for yourself.

I'm sure you have found this info already, but just going to toss this out there.  NO TAX AND CHEAP SHIPPING (unless you live in a state where tire rack has a dist center and they get you for TAX)

On average just about $100 more for the whole set over the 15's.

MT's are in the same range.  For the MT I would just go for look or price.  Noise, ride, tread life are all in the can at that point.
