After I posted this I got to chat with him online for about two hours. The best Christmas present ever! I am very happy now!

Learned last night he was wounded yesterday morning our time. He has shrapnel in his right side, and possible hearing loss in his right ear. Will be in hospital over there for a few weeks. Thats all the details I have for now.
Cross your fingers, Harold.

Blazin, sorry to hear about your nephew. You must be proud of his service to our country. I wish him well.

Sorry to hear that Blazin (actually hate to hear about any of our Brave Men and Women being wounded over there).

Keep positive, in the Old Days (14 years ago) I would tell my wife this when I was deployed.

If I get wounded THEY must tell you (it could be 5 stitches) but they must tell you

If I stay in the Country I am deployed to I am not that bad off.

If they fly me to Landstuhl Germany within 48 hours I am hurt but not too badly

If they send me to Walter Reid I might need some specialized treatment .

Harold keep a stiff upper lip , When he gets thru this you both can drink a beer and you can tell him how you felt at this time.

It is actually (from hearing it from my wife) more stressful and traumatic not to be in a war zone (just worrying about a loved one deployed) than actually being there (when deployed you are usually pretty busy esp if you are a 11B )

Well found out tonight he was to go for surgery to remove the shrapnel this morning, but have not yet heard the outcome of that. They all made it but the is one who is in pretty bad shape.

Offering up our prayers too.  I have been down that road, actually been down about all of the roads in Iraq. He will be alright. As an NCO, more than likey all that matters to him anyways is that his men are okay...

Government doesn't tell much even to his spouse:
But this is latest update. He arrived stateside, Seattle WA. Will be on his way to a burn unit  hospital. Burns not mentioned prior this. So I know nothing about that. Surgery for the shrapnel went well, and he is stable to travel. Hearing loss more severe than indicated, one side completely out and some loss in other side. He is safe here in the USA, and the family is delighted that perhaps we might get to hug him sooner than we thought.
Thank you for your prayers and concerns it has been a big help to know you are all out there praying for him and us.
Harold.

Glad to hear he's back stateside.  I hope his recovery goes well and that he is assured that he is greatly appreciated and highly respected for his service and sacrifice for this country.

My sister talked with him today for a few minutes. He will be in Tacoma Washington for a while. He would like to move to a hospital closer to home in Alaska but that is still up in the air.

I am sure things will work out O.K.
Be proud of him, which it sounds as though you are.
There is something about wounded veterans that make the rest of us feel guilty for enjoying what we have without sacrificing anything.  I'd give anything I have for any veteran who stood up for what he/she believes in, which, I am sure echoes Thomas Jefferson's; Life, Liberty and puruit of Happiness.
Folks, those words goes a long way.  Be glad for what you have and think about our U.S. veterans.
