TX Truck Registration

Hey Texas!

I am coming to your state... to live.

My company is moving me to the Houston area. I don't know which area yet. Just wondering what I have to look forward to as far as registration fees, title requirements, inspections for a 1975 c10 6200gvw?

My last registration sticker cost me $60.80 (it is registered as 5000 GVW).  It was a little over $100 bucks when I had the title transfered to me.  You will only need a safety inspection for a '75 model.  The breakdown in price on my last inspection receipt was $12.75 safety / $27.00 emissions.

Thanks. I'll have to dig out my SC title from 1991, might be able to get the transfered... no title required in AL for 75 and older.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the $100 was for title transfer and that year's registration.  It was actually $103.80; so figure about $43 for a title transfer.  The truck has never been registered out of Texas, so I'm not sure if this information applies to you.  I just figured I'd let you know in case it does.

You will rpobably have to get your truck inspected first before you can get the title transfered. I have had several out of state trucks that require a green tag inspection, or something like that, to get the title transfered. I dont remember the name. We dont have emissions in our area, but it has to have the original type air cleaner with the heat riser tube. Cats, probably not on that year model. Also, if it had a cold air tube, it will have to be in place as well. That also depends on the inspector. You want to find a garage with an old mechanic doing the inspection. The service centers have yough kids who only know what the book says, and the book isnt always right. I fought every year to get my 51 p/u inspected before I gave up and got antique tags. It was a battle every year to convince another kid that turn signals,brake lights, two taillights and even the oil filter were optional in 51. You may consider the antique tags if it isnt your daily driver. Its only $50 for 5 years, and you can get Haggerty classic insurance on it for cheap, and it covers more than liability.

I visited the DOT site and found out some of the things I need to repair. I need to plug up some exaust leaks, get my horn working again, fix the interior cab lights and put some bumpers on it. Darn I have to work on the truck again

Also read about the Classic tags for >25year vehicles, looks cheaper that reg tags without the restrictions of the antique tags.

No cats, always heard the 75 was the last 1/2 ton without them if the GVW was greater than 6000lbs. Oh that reminds me, I need to put the VIN back on.
