you were about 5 miles from me, I am about 5 miles west of there just off of Broad Street--I can almost see the channel 6 (the south's first television station) tower from my house.
I was on a walking tour Saturday with a Richmond Battlefield Park Service Ranger tracing Lincoln's steps that he took two days after the fall and burning of Richmond, and nine days prior to his death. He got off his boat off the James River and walked up 17th street to Main street, went to Jeff Davis's White house of the confederacy and sat in his office chair hours after Davis left. 17th street is directly under the 6 lanes of interstate 95 in downtown Richmond as the interstated passes the old Main Street Station whose clock tower is just feet from the guardrail of 95.
He then went to the Richmond Capitol building, designed by Jefferson, and rode in his wagon around the capitol building. Then went back to his ship for the night and the following day left for Washington.
We spent about two hours walking the streets of richmond following his steps and stopping where he stopped. that was cool. I'll post pics a little later.
