My project/conversion Suburban

Heres a few pics of my "400.00 dollar" burb. I bought this truck about 8 months ago orignally as a parts truck to fix my wrecked (idiot ran astop sign!) beloved '88 r-20 burb, but this truck was in WAY to nice shape to just tear it apart and junk it, so i figured i'd just transplant the drive train from my 3/4 ton in to her, then proceed with my dream of building a "1-ton duelie burb".
 So i'm transfering, Motor,trans,axles, all the power options, and the rear AC.

 So here's a few "before" pics......look how nice this truck is.....and i only paid 400 bucks for her!!!!
  I have really only done some maintanence repairs to her.....so i think i might have 1200-1500 bucks in her now!
Let me know what you guys think.....i'm sure proud of her....don't see em like this anymore....no rust....straight body....And dependable!!

 Yes I would like to build it like my AV but don't think I'm gonna use the 4 light frontend, I really like the frontend, but seems everyone is going to the one, and i like to be alittle different (lol!) I really did think Alot about building a 6 door duelie burb, My brother owns a bodyshop and does alot of custom fabricating, but he's an hour and a half from me, and my only other trans right now is my Harley. Weather has been alittle to ruff for riding much around these parts, but it is starting to break!
 As for my " superman" plate... I used to be in a fairly famous band in these parts, and the guys used to call me "Super Stofferston"..Lead singer thought i looked like Kris Kristofferson....so i got the name and the "superman" sign tagged on me. and it kinda stuck,so......And my 454 in my other burb is a monster!!! Witch is the drivetrain I'll be transplanting into my '91! so it really fits.
 
 Anyway, I'll keep taking picks as she continues to be transformed,and I'll keep you guys posted!

Under the hood was almost this clean when i got her...
 How do you like my backup cam screen? and i love my radar dectector..it has a remote display on the instument cluster...
How about my "factory" fog light switch? it came from a lat '80's to mid '90's s-10 blazer with factory fog lights, it fit the curve of the burb dash perfectly...almost looks original,huh? All the seats look this good except for the bottom of the front seat, but i have ordered the replacment uphoilstry for it hope ot gets here soon! then the interior will be perfect!..BTW...anyone got a brown dash pad in good shape?.....i need one!

Ive been doing tome research on the dually sub conversion. I found a write up from 92 that showed the steps to the conversion. In the writeup, they used a 3/4 ton sub. They put adapters on the rear axles for the wheels. What I dont understand, is why they would need to do this? SHouldnt the dually wheels bolt up to the axle with out any spacers? I thought the axles were the same width. Any thoughts on why the adapters would be needed? I understand for the front, tho I would just change to the dually rotors.

I had a 95 3/4ton van back in the day and had a crazy idea. I was going to attempt to make it a dually(don't laugh). I tried to fit a set of dually wheels on the rear and the wheels hit the drums(they were kinda big). Maybe if I had spacers it mighta worked.

No Dually axles are a hole seperate axle pickups used a Dana 70 axle that is considerably wider
cab and chassis dually ised a 14bolt axle that was very narrow

All one tons have narrower rear springwidth ( to aid in spring to tire clearance)




to dually a suburban with out spacers you need a PICKUP dually rear end . and a set of One ton spring hangers and springs ( front and rear hangers)

also there maybe some issues in shock mounting as well

We've seen newer vans that were conerted to duallies.  Not too bad looking for a van.  Not so sure I would drive one though, but I would come closer to driving a dually van then just a regular van.
