Anyone put an alarm and remote locks on their truck?
« on: March 22, 2009, 04:09:46 pm »
I scored a brand new viper alarm, Model 791xv off my roommate. Its new been installed and has the remote start option and everything. I have a fully loaded 83 silverado I would like to install it is. Does anyone have an alarm on their truck or know whether this will or will not work? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks guys

As long as you have fuel injection the remote start function will be fairly simple. Other than that installing it should be pretty easy and since its a brand name you should be able to download the installation instructions from the manufacturer.

i have a keyless entry on my truck but its used to pop the doors the set up is easy just find out what wires do what and mine is hooked up to relays, then the relays give the solenoids in the door 12v. that lil computer box puts out very little. juice i don't know the proper way for locks but i bet if you do the relays and wire the 12v switch to the lock switch that would do it. as far as the remote start there has to be a way i don't have the directions to mine anymore but i know it has to work w/ a carb it shouldn't mater. you would just have to find the "starter wire" on the box a wire that turns "hot" after you use the starter button and a wire that turns that temporary hot wire "cold" after you turn the key. the wire you run to the solenoid on the starter should stay hot for like 3 sec. don't know if its the proper way to do it but thats how i think it should work don't hold me to it tho wait for more responces.

surprice ...surprice ...      you can install a remote start to a carburated vehicle (I have one) if you go professional installer at his work place might not do it, but he can on the side (if you know what i mean).

the vehicle has to start fast when ignition key is switched to start position , if it has hard starting dont even bother !!!

Yes you can but it requires extra equipment that may be very costly. I checked the Viper site and was unable to find anything about installing on a carbureted vehicle. So I am not sure if they will supply the needed equipment or if it is even supported through them. I was the OP I'd give them a call though.
