What you think vs What you find out
« on: March 23, 2009, 06:20:07 pm »
So when I bought my truck the PO had told me a bunch of stuff about it and as I starting poking and prodding I was discovering things about the truck that the PO had said that wasn't true.

One of the things that what I "thought" was that the truck had 3.73 gears in the rear but when I was driving on the highway it sounded like the truck was revving a lot higher than it was.

Fast forward a couple of months and this weekend I put a tach into my truck and was out on the highway and looked at how fast I was going... 100km/h (65mph) and looked at my tach and saw that I really was only at about 2700-2800rpms  :o woohoo!

So I came home whipped up a engine rpm calculator page (http://www.csgnetwork.com/multirpmcalc.html) punched in all the data including the tire size of which mine is 28" and low and behold it says for a AUTO 2700 rpm.

SCORE!

So I know now that I own a 305 with a crappy qudrajet backed by a th350 transmission ending with a rear end that has 3.42 gears!

im actually new to the truck world. this truck is my first real truck but before this i was a muscle car freak. dont know why i switched to trucks but anyways whenever i bought something from a person i never believed what they said. i always checked myself something like a tranny is easy to tell by the pan shape. rear end you never know like my van. the tag says 3:42 gears but i had 4:11 installed, so if you look at the tag and think 3:42 your in for a suprise. same thing with engines. if its used you just never know. i have had good luck and bad look, made out good and got did wrong, luck of the draw.
