A Day at the Auction
« on: April 05, 2009, 02:36:34 am »
So went to a farm auction today supposed to be 9-12 ended up being 9-6, to look for horse supply's but what was there was going for way to much. they had a three wheeler trike for a lil kid the type you pedal it went for $95 a 87 jeep wrangler that didn't run and once they got it running it would not idle it went for $1050. as i continued on my journey i saw a Honda 4 wheeler and a yamaha 225 shaft three wheeler since i been looking for a 3 wheeler i thought i would stick around to see how much it went for figured i would go no higher than $600 so finally about 5 O'Clock they got to the 3 wheeler. a little girl was sitting on it and her dad was right beside her i figured they would be my competition she looked like a spoiled brat he looked like a dad that would do anything for his little girl. when the bidding started it dropped down to $100 they started to bid once there was only one left i started to bid letting out a big yepppppp. i get the bid the guy bids again so i bid then he just dropped off and i ended up getting it for $225. now since i been looking at three wheelers i know they go for about 500 so i saved, figured the wife would be Happy i saved, guess again you would think i paid $1000 for it. forgot to mention 9 hours in the sun and not feeling it ouch my face is burnt, wind gusting all day ouch chapped lips and standing for 9 hours ouch bad knee.

I feel your pain there. I hit auctions quite often. I bought a 79 3/4 ton w/ 454-th400 for $200 and a 82 3/4 ton crewcab 454/4speed for $300 at one auction and drove both of them home. I have seen some vehicles that I thought were scrap that went for rediculous prices. Usually I can tell pretty early if its gonna be a decent auction.
I got the sour end of the deal at one once, and havent let myself do it again. I bought a 95 Mercury Sable, 3.8, clean, cold a/c and ran like a top. Bought it for $700, went to drive it home, and it had first gear.......only. I wont buy anything but trucks at auctions now. That stupid little cars transmission was over $1500. I didnt fix it, I sold it at a loss, but not as much of a loss if I had kept it.
