Fuel Tank Questions

I am in the process of cutting down a crew cab to fit a shortbed, I want to use a rear mounted blazer tank 25 gallon. The truck is a 1991 5.7 TBI. The original tanks have 3 outlets on the sending unit. All of the Blazer tanks for FI have 4 outlets, I need to use a FI sending unit due to the in tank pump. What sending unit do I need? Looks like there is only one sending unit available from classic parts for a 25 gallon FI. Help?

Dude this a forum for 73-87 chevy trucks. Your question does not belong on this forum, I'm sure there are plenty of forums for 88 and up chevy's out there.

Russ, Give the guy a little room...Your forgetting about the V & R Trucks & Blazers, they go up to '91. The '91 Crew cab is one of "our" trucks. Calling the website 73-91 would be awkward too, because of the "new body style" Chris did it right.

Russ, take a chill pill that is NO way to treat a fellow member.  He is in the right place.  3/4T and 1T trucks were continued until 1991 in R/V style along with Blazer/Jimmy and Suburbans.
I own a 1991 Crew Cab.  It is understood to those that know this bodystyle that the forum is 73-87(91) chevy trucks.

Use a 87-91 Blazer/Suburban sending unit.  I have 3 of them all with just 3 lines.  There is one on my 73-87chevytrucks.com Project and on my Jimmy.  1 is a 25g the other is a 31g.  I got the from advance and napa.

Sorry forgot about those for a moment, call it old age creeping in. I also wasn't trying to came off snotty just was thinking if he went to another forum the knowledge would be far greater in that area.

1H - worry not brother I have plenty of knowledge the only thing I send my vehicles out for are an alignment. If I had the machine I'd do that myself too.

You could always run a 3 line sending unit(feed,return, and vent) and run an in-line pump instead of the pump in the tank. My truck runs this set up with a 31 gallon suburban tank. If you find a good spot for the pump than you wouldn't have to drop the tank to get at it in the future. This may make things easier on you years down the road if your pump goes.

Do you have the information on an in-line pump, I think Captn' said earlier that it needs 15 PSI. Thanks for any help in advance.

Nothing against Fitz, but I personally wouldn't run a external pump, being in the gas cools it.  It may be a pain to replace, but it will last longer in the tank.

Good point Capt. The reason my truck has the external pump is because it has TPI and not TBI. It was hard to find an in tank pump for this set up (45+/- psi) so the external pump was an easy way out.

Actually all you would need to do for TPI pressure is put a TPI pump in the tank.  That is what I am doing on mine.

 Thats what I love about this site, the info that You and others have made available to us.
 This set up was installed years ago when reliable info was a little harder to come by on line. The GM counter man wasn't big on letting us open boxes to see what would fit.
 You know the routine, if you give them the make,model, and Vin # they can look up your parts on the computer.
 Try explaining that you want to see if you can get a fuel pump from a 87 IROC TPI 350 onto a 91 Suburban sending unit to install into an 81 pick up and you get that deer in the headlights look.
