80 c10. future prostreet project..
« on: April 15, 2009, 09:09:15 pm »
i finally got around to getting some pics for you guys. this is what i will be starting with. i havent been able to do much yet, other than starting to prepare to pull the motor. we have an 86 in the shop right now being redone, so i havent had room for this one yet..but getting closer so im starting to do more planning...here is how it sits now...i dont know how much of a drop it has, but it sits really low....has 255/60/15's.

I was planning on building a motor and doing 4 link with tubs and all the works...but i think i have decided to just do the motor, a new lowering kit, and tires/wheels..that way i can drive it and have some fun with it this summer, then maybe do a 4 link over next winter...i would love to hear some suggestions and advice...i know i want 15inch wheels, with probably a 29" drag radial or something in the rear..other than that im really unsure?? what kind of wheels? ride height? etc...dunno if i should go with a 2/4 shackle and hanger, or like a 3/5 flip kit...cant decide what would look best for what i want....narrow fronts and as wide as possbile in the back with the leafs.....i cant seem to find a good "prostreet looking" wheel in the 5x5 pattern...
anyways, and ideas will be appreciated..thanks..

Sweet truck! Personally I like the ralleys. It looks like it sits ok to me. I wouldn't change it unless something was done subpar. Has the rear already been flipped?

ya i like the ralleys myself...i thought about keeping them...or i heard there was a company that made some that looked just like stock ones, but you could get wider ones in the back? i think i need a 15x10 or 12 in the back? i want the widest i can get but have them fit inside the fenderwells.....i didnt know how the current drop would look/work if i put the 29 inch drag tires in the back....either way it has to be redone because whoever did it cut down the coils and rewelded the axel plates back one, which for 1 doesnt like like they welded very good, and 2, the pinion angle is obviously off because that rear end whines and leaks fluid out the front bad...

Yeah, I think it's Stockton Wheel Co and there's another one I can't think of right now. It looks like they cut alot off to get the front that low. I wonder if it can be aligned right now. I don't blame you on the rear. I'm sure that's a sight to see.lol

yea i think it looks really cool sitting like that...but deff not safe...and it looks as if it would be rubbing the ground all the time turning into gas stations or any dip whatsoever..

I have 15x10 CentreLine Convo Pro's on my truck and they have a very deep dish to them. A lot of door slammer drag cars use Convo Pro's but in the 16x15 size or so, so it does kinda give it that pro street look. I run a 295/50-15 tire. The fronts are 15x8.5 and also have a fair bit of dish to them. Front tires are 245/50-15.

Hello shields. We discussed on another forum at one time. Looks like it's going to be a nice project. You didn't say whether it is or will be your sole transportation. My 2 cents, for what it's worth. Have a solid idea what you really want and don't just dive into it or you will probably be changing things 2 or 3 times. Ask any and every question you can think of , but be specific, to help bring this together. I first would concentrate on building a stout engine with enough grunt to back up the "look" , if you're still going the pro street way. That way, like you said, you can enjoy it this summer. Then you can decide which way you want to go with the suspension. Are you going to cut the axle housing and get shorter axles? Or just find the deepest off to fit the wheels without cutting?Spool? Pois? Spring relocation or go with coilovers?  Best of luck to you.

sux2bu99....thanks for the info..im guessing you are still using leaf springs in the rear? how much of a lowering kit are you using?

joe. ya i was originally going for a very similar setup as what yours is, minus the motor...but as of now, i think im leaning towards just slightly built 350....and leaf springs in the rear with stock width axels...and just put the widest tire/wheel i can fit under there and still have it lowered with the prostreet look...and get it going so i can have some fun...it wont be my main transportation, just a toy....then see how it goes and maybe narrow the rear and go to coilovers over the winter or something...

Sounds like a cool project ;D

Centerline makes a lot of rims that are in a 5 X 5 pattern. If you roll your fender lips and get the right backspace a 15 X 12 should fit but a 15 X 1o fits sweet with the right tire.

The sweet thing about these trucks is the frame rails are far enough in so you can narrow the rear end with 15 X 14 rims without back halfing the frame rails you still have to c notch  nut it's a whole lot easier than back halving.

I was planning to install a set of 15 X 12 convo pro rims and narrow my rear end but I decided to keep my old rims and install a set of 30 X 10.5  rims so I can race in a street class.

Any way cool project, make a list and be flexable

Thanks
