Swine Flu

Just some info i thought i share
Swine Flu Info

Swine flu has been reported in the US, and federal and state agencies are increasing surveillance of the disease
for your protection. In response to this outbreak, the DOC Bureau of Correctional Healthcare Services has
issued this sheet to explain what swine flu is and how to stay healthy.

What is swine flu?
Swine flu is an influenza (flu) virus. It is a lot like regular seasonal flu that some people get in the winter.
Swine flu is a respiratory disease of pigs.

Is there swine flu in the DOC system?
No. There is currently an outbreak of swine flu in the US. There are no reported cases of swine flu in the DOC
system.

Can I catch swine flu?
People do not normally get swine flu, but an increasing number of human infections are being reported in the
US. Swine flu viruses have been reported to spread from person-to-person in previous outbreaks, but person-toperson
spread was limited. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) continues to gain understanding of
transmission of this virus. In the interim, it is advisable to consider swine flu to be transmitted the same way
regular flu is spread- through close contact with those with swine flu infection or by touching surfaces
contaminated with the virus and touching the mouth, nose or eyes.

What happens to me if I get swine flu?
Swine flu is similar to regular flu. People with swine flu can have a fever, a cough, sore throat, body aches,
headache, chills or feel very tired. Some people may have diarrhea and vomiting. The flu infects the nose,
throat and lungs and can make it hard to catch your breath. In some cases it can cause pneumonia. Swine flu
can worsen other medical conditions.

How can you protect yourself from swine flu?
The good news is you can use common sense rules to protect yourself from swine flu. Wash your hands with
soap and warm water often. Cover your mouth if you are coughing or sneezing. Avoid touching your mouth,
nose or eyes. Throw used tissues in the garbage. Get rest, eat healthy food, exercise and drink plenty of fluids.
If you smoke cut down or quit, at least during this outbreak, to lower your chances of respiratory infection.

How can I tell someone has swine flu?
It is hard to tell if someone has the flu. People can spread the flu even before they look sick. Other people may
have a runny nose and sneezing from “hay fever” and not have flu at all. A person who does have the flu can be
sick for up to 7 days. Usually the person begins to feel sick and look sick on the first or second day.

Are there medicines to treat swine flu?
Yes. If you get sick with swine flu there are medicines to keep you from getting sicker. There is no vaccine
against this type of flu at this time.

How long can swine flu virus live outside the body?
Swine flu can live 2 hours or longer on things like cafeteria tables, doorknobs, and desks. Wash your hands
often with soap and warm water.

Can I get swine flu from eating or touching pork?
No. Swine flu is not spread by food. You cannot get swine flu from eating pork or pork products. Eating
properly cooked pork is safe.
I loved that one

How serious is swine flu?
Just like regular flu, swine flu can be mild or very serious. DOC will continue to give you information to help
you protect yourself.
I was sitting with the wife at a dairy queen the other day and overheard one of the girls at the counter talking about how she thought she had the swine flu, i couldn't help but laugh at her saying all the signs she had and it was like she was reading them from a news report kind of seamed like she was just wanting the attention from he fellow workers. almost asked her if she really thought she had it then what was she thinking when she got ready for work and came in to serve people food. then another one of her coworker told her yup it sure does should like you had it.

Hey guys,
6 of us just returned from the Mayan Riviera last night and it was quite scary coming home. As far as we know we do not have it so far. Just going to hang out in my garage and work on my truck and if I feel junky than I know the "swine" is coming. Quite the experience being there when Canada and the US is freakin. We didnt hear to much about it untill have way through our vacation. In Playa Del Carmen, Cosumel and Cancun some locals, bartenders were whereing masks and at the airport on the way home, the whole airport staff were wearing them. (just like the movies)... Good thing we came back when we did. Our resort had to close half of the comlex down cause of cancelled trips. Really cheap to go now though ( half the price we paid).
    Salute everyone and be safe.

lol half price might have to plan a quick trip  ::) those mask are funny had a pic of a guy in Mexico or somewere like that that had it only covering his mouth and left his nose exposed. those mask are a false sense of security cause the people wearing them think since they have them they can go into crowded places and be OK

They say if you have had a real bad flu in recent years (with strep throat like symptoms) you may have already had the swine flu. Another funny thing is they had a vaccine somewhere over in.... wherever and it got contaminated and is thus unusable  :D

Dream, I'm with you.  I think it is a hoax!  What ever happened to the "Bird Flu".  Wow, you don't hear anything anymore about all these scrawny, little chickens running around infecting people anymore do you?  People have just stopped dying from this all of a sudden!?!  What ever happened to the people running around in Hasmat suits?  The price of chicken just went up!

I think it is like,"watch this right hand so we can do something else over here with the left".  Just watch for the left hook from this...
