old poster, new name, new project!
« on: May 09, 2009, 01:17:38 pm »
Hi, Mike and Crystal here, we used to use micrys5150 but have changed accounts before reading about the ezboard swap! We sold the 77 chevy shortbed and have bought an 83 shortbed that had a diesel in it and someone yanked the diesel and put in a 383. The engine runs and sounds great but the tranny crapped out last month and we want to put in a new/rebuilt one. Tranny is presently a 700R4. We know a great tranny guy in Cloverdale, CA and will probably have him rebuild it. SgtDel gave us some great info and feedback about our 77 a few years back and it was actually his crowing about the 383 that prompted me to search out this rig. We just moved to the Humboldt nation and have to tow the 83 from her Dad's house to here before we start wrenching on it. We'll keep you all posted as we progress. Sgt Del, what tranny do you have behind your stroker? Ours is a 4x4 and I've heard we may want to go with a TH400, since it won't get alot of freeway use. Our 700R4 is rebuildable and would have the OD...guess we're kinda vacillating!

A good tranny guy should be able to build the 700 and make it last. Id go that route.
By the way, Welcome back.

Thanks for the welcome choptop! Looking around at all of our vehicles, I've come to the conclusion that they're ALL projects! My 95 GMC needs new tires, the front end rebuilt and door hinge work, My Grandma's 1960 Buick Invicta would look sweet restored, and Crystal's Ford ZX2 has a blue hood and fender since I couldn't find a black one at the junk yard after I wrecked it! Always something to do...Man, I gotta rebuild the garage so I can get a rig in there so I can work on it! But before I rebuild the garage I got to build a shed to put our junk in. All these projects to do and I'm sitting here drinking a beer and typing on the computer....I'm pathetic! Have a great week guys!

Thanks for the welcome back, y'all! Captkaos, we're fine with our new name and all. Just glad to be getting back into the swing of things!
We're really looking forward to working on Crystal's truck and interacting with all of the fine people there are here on this site! We'll start putting pictures and projects in there appropriate places as things progress...Speaking of...I poured piers for the shed last night! The garage is actually an old carriage house. It was built on dimensional 4x12's 20 feet long that were laid right in the dirt. I'm gonna get the shed built, pull Granny's Invicta out of the garage (along with all our junk), lift the building up about three feet and pour a perimeter foundation under it. Then I'll pour a slab and sheath the walls (after I pull off all of the old siding), get it dried in and reroofed. The building is 20' x 14', so it will make a nice one car garage. I plan on building an attached room for tools and a work bench area, so the main floor will be dedicated for vehicle with some room to maneuver around. The whole building (studs, siding, shingles, and trim) is made of old growth redwood, so it's surprisingly sound, with little to no dry rot...One step at a time....

Sounds like a cool project in itself. Are you gonna post pics of it, or just tease us?

If you guys want pics of the shed and garage build, I'll be happy to post some. Just where do I post it so I'm in the right thread when I do it?   Also, I'm not the most computer-literate individual in the world, so I might need some insight on how to post the pics! SgtDel helped me send him some pics of our 77 a few years back and it seemed simple then...I can build anything out of wood but watch me with a wrench or a computer nearby, and you're in for some good comedy!!!

Maybe I could post them in "Member's projects"...? And after looking in tech articles, Chris has detailed how to post pics to the forum...I'll take some pics of the garage and Granny's Invicta and post them in "Member's Projects" this weekend. It'll be a long thread over some time, 'cause I'm gonna use cash for everything and do all the work myself (me and the little woman), she's the best helper I ever had!

Your truck build goes in Rides.  You can post you garage pics in the general discussion board.  There is a garage thread there going.
