Wiper Issues
« on: May 29, 2009, 09:42:20 pm »
There was an old thread (+30 days), but the issues seems a little different.

My wipers are supposed to be intermittent, but only operate at one speed in the intermittent position.  Slide it over one more and it's the same speed, slide it over another and it's slightly faster.  The pulse works but doesn't return to stop position.

I've tried replacing the switch as it was the cheapest part.  Figured I'd give it a shot and plush my knob was missing.  That didn't work, issues are still there.  I see two parts it could possibly be.

Motor (approx. $90 part)

Wiper Delay Control Module (approx. $95 part)

The past thread recommended swapping the motor out.  Any chance it could be this control module that plugs into the switch?  Both are rather pricey and I'd like to make sure I pick the right one.

well i hope this helps. my 82 c10 has intermittent wipers also. the switch operates like this,,, all the way left is off. one click right is intermittent, which you have to turn either clockwise or counter clockwise to change frequency. one more click to the right gets you low speed wipers, then one more click right gets you hi speed wipers. at least thats how mine works. good luck

that's how mine USED to work too.  i wish i knew what it was.  looks like either way I'm going to have to be in about $100 just to get the wipers to go the speed i want and stop where i want. geez  ::)

yeah, my wipers were horrible too. i had to replace the switch and fix some wiring. also still have issues with the window washers. had to rebuild the pump. and for a little while when i would hit a bump the washer and wipers would come on. but that stopped doing that on its own. i love trucks with there own mind. good luck again

Mine is like that in my 83, every now and then they just start working for no reason whatsoever.  If nothing else, it was a bad design.
