Dash question
« on: June 04, 2009, 12:30:37 pm »
I have never been behind the dash pad in any of my Chevy trucks, so I was just wondering if the metal framework of the dash could be unbolted and replace with a newer style? Say take one out of my 76 and put in one from an 85 or so. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Wade

Start on page 17 of the build and you`ll see the start. I removed the dash out of that cab which was originally a 1985 cab and bought a metal dash from frog here that came out of 1 of his trucks... Its not hard its time consuming though.. My trucks cab originally was badly rusted i needed to find a good solid cab and i came across this 1 but the dash needed to be changed as it didnt have the hole for the winshield wiper switch. Plus i wanted to make it more period correct... The whole windsield post area has alot of spot welds you`ll need a spot weld cutter to remove them all.The sides do unbolt but it wont remove that dash from your cab... If you need any questions answered let me know i`ll help you out...

thanks

Thanks for the info! I will have to go digging into the dash to see just how many spot welds there are so I can decide if I want to attempt it or not. Should be fun!!

Thanks again.
