Idea that would really confuse people.
« on: June 20, 2009, 12:23:47 am »
I got a weird idea, that i think would be kinda funny cause it would confuse the heck out of people, even the enthusiasts of these trucks. What if - you took a longbed, and instead of doing the typical shortbed conversion that a lot of guys have done... you only did it half way. You would find out exactly what length is directly in between a shortbed, and a longbed. For it to work it would have to be dead center between them, otherwise they might assume it was just one or the other. Either a shortbed or a longbed. Just for example: Say if you are supposed to hack 8 inches out of the frame to convert to a shortbed, you only hack out four inches. (dont know the exact lengths to cut but you get the idea) Then, you fix it all up like you would normally to complete the conversion. But now, you got a frame that will fit no bed out there. Well, this is the hard part, but i have seen some of the guys here do some pretty masterful metal work. You cut a longbed to fit your new frame, and splice it back together. Then you do all the bodywork, paint the truck real nice, and basically make it look like it came that way.

You would have a one of a kind, neither a short bed or a long bed. It would be directly in between, and you would have everyone scratching their heads. It would be great. I think it would be really cool to have something like that, that no one else has. You could kinda have the best of both worlds, in a way. There are people that think the longbed is just to long (i personally think it looks just right) and people who think the shortbed is just a little too short. (im one of them) What do yall think of this idea?

Eh, i was looking for a more typical design. I don't think that one would confuse people. Those aren't common enough to make people wonder. When i first saw that truck i just assumed it came that way cause it was not a regular cab. Im thinking of a single cab truck.

yes but the beds on the extended cabs are an odd sized bed length. they are right in the middle of 8 foot and 6 foot beds. But yes that would be kind of kool to make a 7 foot bed truck just to screw with the next owner or whatever.

Heck of a nice retarded looking truck choptop! ;D

Interesting idea. I kind of like it. A short bed truck is not great for pulling heavy trailers at high speeds and lets not talk about trying to fit anything in the bed. Wonder how "medium long bed" might do pulling trailers. I do not dislike the look of a short bed or long bed. But to me the short bed is not functional enough.

I am seriously considering removing the back section of the bed on one of my trucks and put the shortbed tail on it. The front part of the bed is 4 inches longer than a shortbed, and I think 18" shorter than a long bed. So it would be easier to shorten the rear of a long bed than lengthen the front of a hard to find longbed. I should help the proportion look better and be very hard to notice. The dually and the 4x4 arent as noticable as the 2wd tan truck, so it will be the first victim if I decide to go that route.
