cab size stepside ??
« on: June 29, 2009, 07:40:48 am »
I just bought molded carpet for my stepside and when I put it in it fits awful at the center hump. Very loose. Fits well at the corners under the seat and at the rockers. The carpet box says "77 Chev full size". The cabs are the same on fleetsides and stepsides, aren't they?. Is there such a thing as a "full size" cab that is wider or has a higher hump? Mine is a 4X4-4spd. Can't imagine the 2wd 4 spd has a larger hump. Are all cabs the same size in 77's??

Yes, The cabs are the same & if you have an original 4 spd. floor, bolt-in hump (as in...the cab hasn't been changed to a 2wd w/body lift, ect.) you would have a "high hump" floor & you are correct...There isn't one higher.
Tell us you didn't buy it from Chris, then check with him for a better fitting one.  ;D Lorne

Cabs are the same from 73-87, the floor tunnels are different as far as size (see the tech post), but they were the same from 73-87(91).

Can you post a pic of the problem.  Keep in mind they were never "tight" even from the factory.

Thanks guys, well I did some trimming and now the carpet fits fine. Just a little extra bulk on the hump but not noticiable. I guess I overreacted when it didn't fit like a glove like I was told it would. Made by Accumats or something like that. Should have researched more and posed the question here first. Seems odd that a custom molded carpet for a common cab like this wouldn't fit better. A person shouldn't have to be cutting out for shifter, transfer case and dimmer. I had to do trimming and pushing and pulling to get the proper fit. If all of these cabs in 4X4's are the same, why not a true custom fit? Perhaps for those guys who do some serious mods. Enough whining. It is in and looks great.

You don't want a precut carpet kit.  Although the are the same, none of them are perfectly the same there will be some kind of variance, so they are all cut long so you can trim to the perfect fit.  Not only that there are 2 different shifter locations depending on the year and automatics don't have shifters.  They are designed around the trans tunnel type not the shifter type.
