Little console sub box project.
« on: July 09, 2009, 08:37:14 pm »
So while I'm working on my 'big' stereo project, I needed to fab up something for a sub to go between the seats. I have the amp rack from my previous setup in there and had a sub box that held 1 8" on the tranny hump when I had my bench seat in. Now that I have my buckets in, I wanted a sub to go between the seats.

I had an old Alpine 10" laying around. This is no mega-watt, huge-voicecoil stomper sub. It's vintage (about 15 years old), only handles 100 watts and is for sound quality. I made a simple 1 cu. ft. (net) ported box out of 1/2" MDF. It fires against the floor. Ports face forward. For only getting 75 watts RMS, it sounds rather nice.

Sure, move it on over Capt. I'll cover it with short-pile black carpet soon. If I feel adventurous, I might add a pod to the top of it with integrated cupholders. That is something these trucks desparately need!

I agree, these truck need cupholders very badly!  Very nice little project!  What are your bucket seats out of?

Thanks. They are out of a late-90's or early 2000's S-series Jimmy/Blazer.

Wrapped it in carpet yesterday. Did it entirely without seams or cutting the carpet, except for some trimming on the bottom. It was a bit of a bear to do, but it's done.

It sounds nice. It doesn't shake the earth or anything but it can pound out some decent jams on the right song. The cab is small so it doesn't take a whole lot to fill it up with bass. The 2 10's on a 45x2 amp in my commuter car is quite a bit stronger but this does well for what it is.

I fabbed up an ABS cover to sit on top since the carpet I used is wayyyyyy to fuzzy and pulls apart much to easily if rubbed against. Drives me nuts. It stretches like crazy but has like 0 durability. Anyway, it's 1 piece and I heated it to bend at the angle I wanted. Rounded off the corners for a nice touch.

Where did you mount the amp? I am thinking of doing this as well. Would definitely like to do add cup holders as well.

4 amps, an electronic crossover, a fuseblock and an Audio Control ESP-3 processor are mounted on an amp rack against the back wall.
