Trailer Hitch
« on: July 16, 2009, 10:47:10 am »
I recently purchased a trailer hitch (used) to mount on my wife's F&*& Expedition and they did not send all the mounting hardware.  I received the 8 bolts but no nuts.  It is my understanding that the nuts are in pairs of 2's welded to a bracket that spaces them accordingly.  By chance does anyone know what size the bolts actually are that were used during manufacturing so I can hunt some nuts down?  They of course sell them at the dealer but none of the local dealers had them and they would have to be ordered.  I'm on a time crunch and need to mount the hitch ASAP.  Could I just use Grade 8 nuts, bolts, flat washers, lock washers and some loctite?  Won't be doing very much to no towing, I will mainly use it to add more carrying space by way of a 24" x 48" carrier.  Thanks

I personally have just gone to the hardware store and bought grade 8 bolts, washers, and nuts for a hitch some years ago. You'd just need the nuts and washers. That's what I would do. Just make sure you use all the holes in the hitch(8).

X2 on the hardware store hardware. Probably 1/2" or 9/16" Take a bolt with you.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Yeah, thanks guys.  That's what I did, I bought Grade 8 nuts, flat washers, and lock washers. I did have to buy 1 grade 5 nut since they only had 7 grade 8 nuts.  It worked out and fit like a charm, it was an OE model and I used all the mounting points and cranked them down with my impact gun.  She's on there tight.  Thanks Again.
