Getting old masking tape???

I have one drawer on a toolbox I bought that the previous owner had some masking tape labeling the drawer. How best to remove it without damaging the paint? I haven't tried a heat gun, just soaking the tape with water. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Try lacquer thinner but try a small out of site spot first make sure it doesn't hurt the paint. Or a pinstripe eraser.

Windex takes the paint off, crappy paint Snap On put on their 1985 Toolboxes. I got most of it off with a hair dryer, seems to work however my fingernails are sore and I think I took a layer of skin off my thumb by rubbing the adhesive off.

I've used zippo-type lighter fluid before.

Most removers except for Goo Gone are solvent based which may affect your paint. Goo Gone is citrus based and should be easier on the paint. I've used that with good success. Just make sure the surface is soaked in it as best you can and let it sit for a few minutes to work. Do that a time or two and it should soften up the adhesive well.

I agree, Goo-Gone is the best i have seen as far as getting it off something you don't want the paint harmed.
