Backspacing, Offset and Rub Question

So a 3/4th ton truck with an added leaf in the rear and a Full floating axle, Im wondering what the largest tire I can use with a 16x7 rim would be, It seems like a 285/75R16 would work but Im not real sure if the tire (a 32") would be usable.

It sits up pretty good but no lift.  What backspacing should I go with? will 4 in. be good because I like the tire to stick out but not rub on any trim around the wheel well.  Im very concerned about this kinda stuff because I dont want to return anything.

I like really deep rims but im wondering how deep is to deep.

If you're going to replace the rims anyway, go with 16x8s. Youll be happier and so will the tire. Im not sure on backspacing. Most tire companies worth their salt will have info on whats recommended. Someone here will chime in so give it a bit. I know that a 265/75 16 hits on our 81 but it also has a bigblock in it, which it originally had a small block, so that is probably a factor. Also, being yous is a 4x4, the 285 may be ok, but I wouldnt go with a 7 inch rim

Thanks, I wondered about that myself but I figured an 8 inch rim would just worsen any rubbing that may occur with a bigger tire and deeper offset.

I'm deciding against getting the Cragar soft 8, as in my previous topic.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a 16x8 inch rim with an 8x6.5 bolt pattern? Brushed aluminum

I wouldn't get a 7" rim with 285's, I agree on the 8" width.
I have Hummer H2 17x9.5" wheels on my 4x2 1 Ton and they fit fine.  I don't know what the backspacing is though.

There is no suspension difference in the 3/4th ton 4x2 or 4x4 is there? But better yet in addition to my truck being a 4x4, it also has an added leaf spring in the rear end as well. 

So Basically I should be able to clear 285/75R16s no problem right? There is no lift kit though, but still?

I think the 4x4s sit a little higher from the factory. I have heard of that size tire fitting, but know it wont fit mine. But, like I say, I think its because of the bigblock. I think they had different springs for the small block, but dont know for sure.

I think ill stick with 265/75R16's I do know that Chevyrado has them on his 4x2 and it looks nice.  And I know for a fact that they will fit.

Im really digging up the internet for a brushed/polished aluminum rim that will work on my truck, but all my searches end up with these retarded ass 24" rims that look ridiculous.

This is Yellers 81 3/4 ton Scottsdale with the bigblock. It originally had a small block, but it has had 265/75 r16s on it for many years. The tires didnt hit with the small block, but do with the bigblock, but only in hard suspension hits. The truck has over 500,000 miles on it, so I imagine that may have something to do with it as well. The rims are American Racing. They still make then, and arent very expensive. These are about 13 years old ( the rims not the tires,lol)

Oh yeah, 265's will be plenty.  That big block in that truck is the only reason they rub, that things just heavy.

I'm really picky on rims, I know the soft 8 is a GREAT deal but I dont want chrome, because of winter and I dont want the silver because it matches the truck and people tell me it wont look right and im starting to believe that, and black.. meh.

I wouldn't get a 7" rim with 285's, I agree on the 8" width.
I have Hummer H2 17x9.5" wheels on my 4x2 1 Ton and they fit fine.  I don't know what the backspacing is though.

H2s are 5.5" back spacing

I have an 89 3/4 2wd 'Burban running 33 12.50 16.5 on 16.5 x 6.75"  Suspension is stock other than added 2 leaves in back and swapped out big block for a smallblock.  I have no rubbing at all, lock to lock even at full flex.  Watch for rubbing on the front fenders back edge at half turn.  Its very rare that the rear will rub, 36 12.50 fit stock suspension in the back.  If your buying rims and tires, go wild and have fun with it.
