Fitment Question

This question is directed towards 78 Chevyrado, because he and I share the same year truck with stock suspension.  But anyone is welcome to reply. I know that a 16x8 rim is what people usually fit a 10.5 inch wide tire on when the budget isn't the best.  I, like others don't have a huge budget, So I want to buy a 16x8 rim.  I want a big tire that will NOT Rub whatsoever.  What is the largest tire I can fit on that rim with no rubbing on a stock suspension (well I shouldn't say stock because there is an extra leaf in the rear spring set).  Mind you this truck is a 3/4th ton so It has a stiff suspension so I don't think it will ever bottom out causing rubbing.

I do believe we answered this in another thread. 265/75 R16s should fit nicely.

Sorry, I been real busy lately so I don't get online much right now....

I have 265/75/16 on mine and had them even before I raised it 2 inches.  I saw no problems whatsoever from them.  They were a good 1-2 inches away from everything at all times.

The tires are 265/75/16 on a 16x6.5 rim.

People keep telling me you can fit a 16 inch rim over the drum and calipers of my truck, but then there is some who say you can't without grinding.  There is 16.5s on it now.  Has anyone ever took of 16.5s and put on 16s on a 3/4th ton?

16's will work, it's 15's you have to grind for fitment.  Mine came with 16 inch wheels.   The 16 inch wheels were the skinny wheels and the 16.5's were the wide wheels.

What lift do you have? Can you lift your truck by just adding more leafs to the front and rear and keeping the same shocks on it?

Mines a 2wd, so I put in a set of 1-ton coil springs up front and got a set of 1.5 inch blocks for the rear.

How do the blocks work? Are they like those spacers you use for a body lift?

Yeah they're similar.  They go between the axle and the leaf spring.  They're NEVER to be used on the front of any vehicle, only in the rear.

#3316   under 3/4 tons.

to install, you just unbolt the U-bolts from the axle/springs, and replace them with the new u-bolts provided (longer) and reinstall with the block between the axle and leaf spring.  Be sure to get any loose scale off where it goes with a wire brush.  and tighten both sides of the u-bolt evenly, (like turn one side 1 turn then the other side one turn..... etc)  Just make sure as you go that everything is seating properly, and that's all there is to it.

darn i put 15x10" rims on a 10.5 14bff with 13x3" drums in the back... see if i can find the picture... and NO grinding....
