Part one:  73-87 heaven (or heck?)

i had to take a little business trip to ohio last week.  As we got lost, i noticed this lot:








1) If this is your lot/these are your trucks and you don't want the pictures up, please notify me and i will take the pictures down immediately.  If not, i think these are fair game as you can see these trucks from public streets.

2) i don't mean to speak deragatory, but i have a feeling that this is the type of situation where if you offered a modest amount of cash they(the owner of this "lot") would gladly accept and be happy that you took it off their hands.  Even though none of the trucks had for sale signs on them.

3) While they may look rough, i took a closer look and they seem to be basically intact, solid and are very workable/usable---the cabs, sheetmetal etc.
a) Being that these are digital photos, i can enlarge or zoom in to give greater detail, if you need it.

4) These trucks are located in, i believe Columbus or just outside of columbus---we got lost so i'm not completely sure, but i did write down the address.   As i do not live anywhere remotely close to ohio, going back to inquire will not be an option.
i can, however, provide contact/address info if you would like thru PM.

 A word to the wise.
 If I see someone snooping around my property and taking pictures of my possesions to post on the webb, I think I would be calling 911.
 I agree that what you can see from the street is fair game for viewing, but then you entered private property to get a "closer look" and posted the pics on the web???
 Maybee it was an innocent mistake but you also mentioned the city and the pictures show the names of the streets where these vehicles are parked.
  I would gladly invite any of the 73-87 site members over to my place to check out my trucks. I look at you guys/gals as friends I've never meet in person. That being said I don't think I would want My address and pics of my vehicles posted for the whole World Wide Webb to see.   
 This 73-87 webb community seems like a great group of people but please keep in mind that anyone with a computer can read anything posted on this site (with exception of the classifieds).

Cool pics.  There's an old garage like that around here that has an older suburban behind it and a 50's model T-bird parked in the oil-change bay.  It's been sitting like that for the last 20years they say and the owner just drives by every few months.

1) Actually, you're probably right about the street signs---i will take those down asap.

2) i see your point about private property and maybe that's one "thing" about me---i tend to do alot of snooping---maybe going places where i "shouldn't be."   i have an explorer nature.

i feel, however, that in this case, this is a business so it's a little different than if i went on someone's residence etc.  i mean, there is a reasonable expectation that random people are going to walk onto a business'es property.

But i see the point about the address-----if someone was looking to steal something.

So, i don't know........how does everyone feel about these pictures/this particular situation?

If everyone does not think it's cool, i will take the pics down(or Chris can do it) immediately.

Bear in mind i would never take a picture on private residential or similar property and post it without asking permission.

But i feel this is different in that, again, because it is a business and you can see all the trucks from all the angles i posted from the public street.  Yes, i did physically go on to the property (tsk tsk!) but techinically you could have gotten all the shots with a telescoping lens.

i mean would it be any different if i posted pics of a salvage yard?

I feel that it is fine.  It's obviously on an open lot that is highly visible from the street and seems to have been that way for quite some time.  Also, as long as you are not entering the vehicles, or a gate, fence or doorway, its also perfectly legal.

I doubt anyone that owns those trucks cares if theyre posted on the internet. They look like theyve obviously been abandoned years ago and that some old business that is no longer around.
Not like theyre anything special and nothing anyone would go out of their way to steal.
Those beaters are a dime a dozen here. I see several on the road on the way to work each day

Bottom line is you went on private property after hours without the owners permission to take pics to post on the internet. As a small business owner, I would not be happy about it.

Are you sure about that being legal? Doesn't the properly owner have the right to set business hours and have the right to expect people to stay off the property when he is closed?
Not trying to nit pick, but my insurance is already high enough. The last thing I need is for someone to fall on the property when I not even open.

Believe it or not there are people that would call all of our beloved 73-87's beaters as we have witnessed with cash for clunkers.

Guys, All I'm trying to say is lets respect other peoples right to privacy. If you see a cool truck, sure post a pic of it, but why show the owners address?

I'm not certain about Ohio's laws, but in Texas, trespassing is only illegal and enforcable on commercial property if signs have been posted prohibiting entrance or a barrier has been constructed to inhibit public traffic.  Enforcing loitering is another issue with a similar "warning must be posted" law.  Short of that, a verbal warning from the owner or an leo would also suffice.

It sounds as though if you were the property owner you would definitely have signs or a fence, and I understand your point of view.

  Jimbo, It sounds like were on the same page, my lot does have no tresspassing signs and video surveillance. It's a small place, I store most of the cars inside at night.
  This whole Business property/tresspassing thing been a sore subject with me lately.
  Let me explain.
  Last month I sold a truck to a guy. He came to test drive it and loved it. We took a test drive and he stopped at local bank and he got me a bank check. We go back to the shop and take care of the paper work. He leaves with the bill of sale,title, and the keys. He says he will come by the next day around 4:30 PM to pick up the truck.
  That night he just "happens" to be driving by my shop with a buddy of his around 10 PM and they decide to check out the truck.(I'm not there and have no idea). Well somehow as they are checking out the truck they manage to lock the keys in the truck with it running.
  They can't get the truck open so one of them heads home to get a coat hanger to try and get in.(keep in mind I have know idea that they are down at my shop). By now it's about midnight and a friend of mine is driving by and sees what appears to be 2 guys breaking into my truck.
  Luckily no one did anything stupid and with a phone call to me everything got resolved, but I'm sure thy had a few tense seconds there.
  This guy wasn't a bad guy and he realized he made a mistake dropping by my shop late at night unannounced. It just seems that with many people when they think of a business they never think that there is an owner that is stuck dealing with all of the problems behind the scenes.

I am a member of a collectable site that has a section called found along the way. One of my favorite things to see on that site. I love gas pumps and old garages in their unrestored form! I can see where stewart was coming from with this. I am guilty of seeing an old truck somewhere and stopping to admire it. I can also relate to having someone pawing around my rusted out jewels in the rough. I have lost some stuff in the past. I would like to see some more chevy trucks with potential or rare parts spotted posted on this site but without addresses. Just my opinion.

Yeah, i still have mixed feelings on this:

1) These pictures and my movement onto the property was actually around 12 noon, not after hours.  Many people driving by clearly saw me on the property.

2) There was actually a neon sign that said "open" and also a light on inside, even though it was clear no-one was there.  No "no trespassing" signs present.

3) The trucks were parked out front, in the parking lot area of the facility;  i think if they really didn't want anyone seeing these, they would have parked them in back?

4) i didn't actually touch the trucks i just looked at them and took pictures.  i didn't take any of the vin#'s nor do i know any of them.
