I have an 84 chev C10 305 4bbl with a 700R4 tranny. this winter I plan on ripping out the 305 and adding some power adders to it and cleaning up the motor and fire wall. Its a strong running 305 with only 150,000 km on it. Does anyone have any good cam ideas that would work. Im looking at a thumper cam. what do you guys think a these cams? ???  I also plan on putting on a new intake and carb. truck already has hooker long tube headers and true dual exhaust. thanks marc  :)

I heard that the thumper cams are more for an aggressive sound, rather than real horsepower gains.

never heard a that company before. The hardest thing i find is trying to find a cam i can use with stock heads. I have really been doing my research on cams and i no that a cam works best when matched to your heads intake and carb. Im going to put a new intake and carb on to and im thinking of going with a rpm intake from edelbrock and im not sure what kinde of carb yet. but now im confused about what kinda cam to use. any help or advice would greatly be appreaciated thanx marc

I got some Vortec heads on my 305, there off of an 89 model engine, and Edlebrock makes a nice intake for those heads to make them carb compatible.

The best advice I can give, is find one that can be rebuilt. Its kinda hard to tell the condition of an engine from the outside, but regaurdless, Id plan on rebuilding it. I can tell you the number of late model camaros and firebirds Ive seen lately that are smoking. I can find them running around here for $200-$300 dollars, but wouldnt put one in until I rebuilt it. Its too much trouble to put one in just to have to pull it out because it smoke like a freighttrain. Unless you can see it run before you buy it and verify that is runs good, rebuild it. These engines a cheap to rebuild if you want just a basic, good running, reliable engine.
