9.50 on 8.75?
« on: August 22, 2009, 11:24:20 am »
The tires on my truck now are 8.75x16.5, can I put a 9.5 inch wide tire on this rim? its a stock 78 K20 white steel wheel.

some tire places wont do it, do to lawsuits if the tire fail they could say its because it was improperly mounted. from what i heard you don't want to go more that 3" more than your tire size

Great, I just wanted to make sure with truck tires, I know people put 245/60R14s on their G Bodies while the stock tire size is 195/75R14 :D, I personally have 205/70R14s.

Thanks guys.

I changed tires from 9.50 to 33 12.50 16.5 and had no problems.  In fact they look awesome and provide lots of protection for the rims.  I used 6.75" wide rims too.

so your saying you put tires that were 6" wider than your rims? how did they wear? or is that a typo

Its not a typo, I actually put 12.5s on 6.75 in wide rims.  They are wearing pretty evenly, the edges are wearing a slight bit faster than the center but i think that is due to the fact that i only run 28psi in them.  If I were to do it over I would use the 8.25 in wide rims and a spacer to eliminate the rubbing rather than the super skinny rims.

I WIULD OF THOUGHT THEY WOULD WEAR IN THE CENTER MORE THAN THE EDGE
