Seat Question
« on: August 30, 2009, 07:42:30 pm »
Hey Guys.

I just bought an '87 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 to run around in.  After driving it back from Idaho, it didn't take long to realize I needed a new seat.  I combed my local yards today and found a great replacement.  Only problem is that it is in a suburban, and it doesn't fold forward.  Can that be converted without a complete teardown?

Thanks for the help.

Yes and no.  You need the bolt in the front to allow it to swivel.  You also have to take it completely apart (seperate back and bottom) to do it.

I am interested in doing the same thing.  I have a '78 K10 with a seat that doesn't fold down.  The seat back is attached on each side by two big Phillips head screws.  Captkaos, did you say you just take out the back screw to make it swivel?  How do you get to it with that fabric right in front of it?

It only works on the years that came with the tilt feature, generally the later 70's-up trucks.  I haven't checked anything earlier.

You HAVE to cut a hole in the ones that didn't tilt, and you will want the cover for it also.
