« on: September 18, 2009, 12:06:55 am »
Going to redo interior and wondering if anybody has any info on a good way to get rid of that bench seat?  What bucket seats have anybody found to work the best for the inside.

Thanks

least expensive easiest would be to get a set out of a factory optioned bucket seat pickup which would be a rare find.  The next best is to find a Suburban and harvest them.  Be sure to get the inner floor bracket welded to the floor.  You will have to heat and bend the rear tracks to follow the floor curve in the truck.  Welcome to the site.

I didn't heat the rear mount, I just bent them.
There is a TON of info on this in the forum.

What some of the guys around here seem to like to do is to go to the junkyard and find some seats out of whatever newer truck they like. Some people seem to like the 99-04 seats, and they seem to fit pretty well. That's the ones I will likely end up with. Then you cut the brackets off your old bench seat and weld them onto the new seat, where it's old brackets used to be. Allowing for the difference in the heights of the two seats, of course. Or, some people even fab up their own brackets to use.

I by no mean’s and capable of fabrication of any kind. What I would like to see is it someone could build a semi-universal set of seat brackets. I would buy them, but something that would bolt up in these trucks, but you could modify to fit most any bucket seat.

Well modifying them is considered fabrication, if there is any welding or grinding or the adding of any new metal. In your case I would recommend that you just go to the junkyard and look at all the truck years seats and decide which ones you like best. Once you decide, take them to your local welding shop with your old bench seat. Tell them to weld some brackets on the new seat, that match the old seat exactly. There are some height differences in seats though, so you gotta measure and take that into account. Should run you around $65. At least that's what it cost my neighbor when restoring his '75 Ford truck. You can buy new online but they are like $1300.
