I've been wanting to ask everyone about this for a while, just hadn't gotten around to it. When I bought my truck several weeks ago both power windows were non-functional. I've already fixed the driver's side and wanted to ask about what I found:
It needed a new motor, so I take the door panel off and see about a 6" x 6" square cut out of the inner sheet metal under the door panel. This square had been cut on three sides and the resulting flap screwed down to keep it from springing out. I undo the screws and bend the flap up and its an access panel to get to the power window motor screws. I removed the three screws, pulled out the old motor and put the new one in without spending more than five minutes. I didn't have to pin the regulator, remove the glass or regulator or anything else. It was so easy I have to ask: what's wrong with doing this? I have the other side to do (assuming its the motor--haven't started troubleshooting) and find it tempting to do the same thing. I have already looked under its door panel and there is no access panel cut into that side.
