Two Noob Questions
« on: October 20, 2009, 08:42:38 am »
1. So I keep seeing mention of matching numbers on older vehicles. I've ascertained that this refers to the major components of the vehicle and matching is somehow good, but I don't know what those numbers actually are. Are they part numbers, serials, etc.? Do the numbers match per specific vehicle or is it something like drive train parts matching model/year?

2. Also, anyone give me a ball park for having one of these trucks painted. I've a C20 I want to paint white interior and glossy charcoal exterior. There are slight imperfections in the body that will need to be filled in, sanded primmered, etc. Thing is whether the body shop says it will take $500 or $5,000 I couldn't tell if it was a good price or not.

Thanks in advance guys.

1) matching numbers means the VIN sequence numbers match the cab, frame, engine, etc.  Basically it means it is just like it was when it was sold and nothing is different.  As far as trucks go, I see absolutely no point as they are never going to be a hot item like a Corvette or Musclecar.

2) For a "Decent" 20 foot paint job, expect to pay around 3000, for a show paint job with no perfections, there won't be a number, but you could probably tripple that cost and be close if you want it flawless.  Generally you can get a great paint job for around 5000.
