dead spot ?

85 4x4 lwb with a grany low 4 speed i put a 76 305 in truck  iv had the carb (4barrel Q jet) rebulit by a mecanic and he timed it 4 me iv got new distributer new plug wiers new plugs ......if i drive it normal its fine but when i stomp the gas it stalls then picks up speed the worse part is if i pull out on the hiway and try to get up to speed real fast or run the gears out , i always take off in second then when i hit 3rd and mash the pedal i get a real bad dead spot then it comes out of it ......i dont know what the problem is carb to small ? if so then if thats the prob.  what would b a good carb to get that would b good 4 a 305 but b a real good one 4 a 350 becouse i will b putting a 350 in one of these days ........

check your choke adjustment.
re check your timing.  
do you have a catalytic converter?  if so, how old is it? full of carbon and rust?

you QJET is  or should be an M4ME - what you are describing sounds exactly like a bad accelerator pump - 10 min fix and a few bucks...
and - that carb is capable of more than enuf CFM for your motor...they can go as high as I think 895 CFM - you'd never draw that much - but anyway -
they're great carbs -  very versatile - no too popular -  and way underrated/overlooked by most folks.
85 shortbed...She digs it...

Carb is not to small.  I had a 2 bbl on a 305, and have seen q-jets on big blocks. 
Did the mechanic do all the work?  If so, I'd be taking it back.  (he knows better than we do, what was done already).  Especially if the  bog wasn't there before the rebuild and tune-up.

ok, c i put the 305 in the truck it had a 2 barrel rodchester on it ,so i took a 4 barrel intake off a 350 and put it on the 305 ,my truck came stock with a 6cyl with the 4 barrel Q jet ......i was just goina have the mech rebuild the rodchester  but  he said that it a crack or somthing wrong with it ,   so thats where i got the idea to get a diferint intake  and i had him to rebuild the q jet , this is a on going problem i just put headers and magna flow muflers on it with 14 guage  2 1/2 pipes and 15 inch 3 inch tips so no cat.....ill look and try to c what carb i do have later , iv put a new fuel pump on new gas tank  new open style breather  with a k&n air filter

i took the breather off an on the drivers side nere the back i found 2 numbers 17085211 and 0255hkr
