Question on D44
« on: November 06, 2009, 09:40:01 pm »
Ok I have a stock dana 44 front axle out of a 3/4 ton...Im was wondering if I could find a jeep or something with a similiar which will most likely have a posi or limited slip and place the carrier out of it in this one if it has the same splines. Are they the same is what im asking?
One guy told me to weld the spiders and just leave one hub locked while wheeling and for serious conditions lock both but it wouldnt turn great. I had an inside laugh on that one.

I know a guy that welded his front end and runs with one hub unlocked. Its no pleasure to drive, but!

they do make diffrent spines i pulled a axle shaft out of one 44 put it in mine and it was smaller, took another axle shaft out and put it in mine at it fit just right. about welding them i wouldint unless you just off road. if it snows you can lock the front cause with one little turn well loss of traction wont be good up front

Yeah I had the idea of welding them...Its basically an offroad truck but its going to have antique tags and about a 10 mile trip on the weekends to go 4wheelin.
