Wheel trouble with 3" spindles
« on: November 08, 2009, 06:22:33 pm »
I just finished installing my Bell Tech dropped spindles and cant get any wheel to fit.  I have a set of American Racing Baja 15X8's, stock 15X7 rallys, and rallys off of a 95 chevy.  I ground the lower control arm all the way around from where it tapers up.  Everything clears (1/4" or so) until you set it on the ground then the baja's or the stock rallys hit on a tight turn.   The newer rallys hit the lower ball joint (even with 5/16 spacers).  The studs aren't long enough to run the spacers on the aluminum rims.  Am I limited to running a 16" or larger??  Any ideas on why I am loosing clearance?  The ball joints seem tight.

On mine it is rubbing on the part of the control arm that is "curled up"  (back a couple of inches from the end).  It is also VERY close to the lower ball joint.  The cliper mount rubbed on the aluminum wheels, but the grinder took care of that.

You just have to grind what you can to make clearance on 15's

I had similar problems with mcgaughys drop spindles. I did try that but even then, I didnt feel that I could grind enough off to fit 15 inch rims. I bought some Impala SS factory wheels(17s) though. I even had to grind on the LCA's still and am probably going to have to still get a spacer.

I got the American Racing Baja's to clear and also the 15 X 6 1/2 rally.  Only had to take about 3/8" of the curled area of the control arm.
