STEERING COLUMNS
« on: November 16, 2009, 12:59:50 pm »
1985 K 20 automatic

It's got a steering column from a safari van in it now, its too long.  Even with the seat all the way back its too close and i can barely reach the pedals. I've read the previous posts about steering column swaps.  They were all pretty much people who already had one and all the problems or lack there of, of installing them.  Are these things almost universal? I need to swap out the one i have with one that is hopefully shorter but i need to retain any functionality it has and work with the existing wiring and power steering.

Suggestions?

84 is the earliest because the dimmer/windshield wiper controls are on the stalk.

I would just try to get one out of the same year truck you have, if possible. At my local junkyard, they got like 20 or 30 of 'em just hanging there, so maybe you won't have too much trouble.
