some interior questions?
« on: November 21, 2009, 01:57:25 pm »
Hey all!!! currently working my dual tank problem now but moving on to some other questions. I've got a few so thanks for the patience. First is the tank selector switch, could i swap that for some other not so bulky switch? If its just a simple push up for the RH and down for the LH id like to swap it for a cleaner looking one. Second is the interior dome lamp, I've seen our year model trucks with some nicer upgrades, any knowledge on where to find one? Next, when i bought the truck they had installed some speakers in the door, they are crap and I'm gonna scrap em, i was thinkin about the headliner with the speakers and cleaning up the doors, anybody have that headliner or have heard something about em? And last!!! ....sigh of relief, i know right!!! This one might be impossible but our old dash, doesn't cut it for me, Ive seen some mods for custom Gage faces, simple ones you can do at home might go that route but the gage lights, can i swap em for some LED's, does somebody make custom gages for our years, or does everybody just reccomend the digital gages? I'd like to swap it out with the 50s type digital Gage but that means fiberglass dash and a pain you know where, I'm a po' boy with big dreams!!! I'm open to all suggestions, opinions, and whatever else comes with it, just trying to see if I'm being practical about my first project!!!

I would keep that dual tank switch in there unless you plan on welding up the hole that will be left. If you want to change switches, you just need a DPDT switch.

I wouldnt put speakers in the headliner, you cant fit bigger ones there. I suggest getting speaker kick panels.

You can gut your instruments and put auto meter gauges or get a dakota dash kit. Very nice looking IMO.

thanks for the input, i kinda wanna keep it original but with some customization. I've see the speaker kick panels, probly better for me if i wanna keep the doors clean and smooth and still have a nice system. The dash I'm more worried about the install for the digitals than anything else, we do have a post on it so i might get brave!!! the switch would be in the same spot just replace it with a cleaner looking one. I'm gonna add some fog lights to the front bumper, so i might just set the switch for those next to it.

You could do the autometer guages in the dash. Thats what I done and I am very pleased with it.  I have the custom guages but I retained the stock look.

Here is a link on how to do it. http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/interior/gauges_recessed.htm

I used the information that I got from that link, I pretty much done what it said to do.  It is a fairly easy swap but it is a little time consuming.  Just take your time and it will turn out great.  I still have to install the billet trim panel and then I will be done with it.
