What kind of car does Al Gore drive into his 8-bay garage that is attached to his 32,000 sq ft house, of which one 80' x 80' room was added just to display his Nobel Prize that he received when he flew his private jet to Norway?

That cartoon is quite relevant. It all needs to come from somewhere, and yes the net pollution rate is probably less (and likely equal when you factor in the pollution potential of all of those batteries) but it is certainly not a zero-pollution system. Even with hydrogen cars there is an energy input required to manufacture the hydrogen.
I wish they would erect more nuclear power plants. By far the cleanest short-term solution to our power generation problems. But even nuke power has it's downsides - we still don't have a long-term (>100 year) plan for storage of radioactive waste products. My dad works in a fab shop where they make a LOT of containers and such for the storage of spent nuclear fuel, reactor cores, and other radioactive waste. All of it gets buried underground, just sitting there where it won't be safe to handle in an uncontained form for thousands of years or more.

I read in Hot Rod one time that it takes more pollution to produce a NEW car than my oil burning, leaking, loud butt car that still gets 29 mpg. Think about it though, if my turd vehicle gets, say 15 mpg, and my new civic hybrid thing get 80, I'll save in gas, but my crappy car has already polluted the environment to be made 20 years ago. I've also read to see any benefit out of your new civic you'd have to put on at least 200,000 miles. I'm happy I don't have to be a nuclear physicist to do an oil change on my car either. lol

Most of this countrys power comes from coal, not nuclear of hydro solutions. Coal is nasty.

My whole county depends on coal. I haul it to power plants, my family depends on it.

Very good Sarge - Remember more people were killed in Ted Kennedy's car than in any nuclear plant accidents in this country...
