The OEM 1990 Chevy grille I bought recently has been much better days. Chrome is peeling on all pieces, flat black paint on the headlight doors is gravel-blasted off, and there are holes from what was probably a bug screen at one time. Reproduction pieces are cheap enough but I just have to decide what look I want.
My truck by VIN is a GMC but the guy who restored it 10 years ago did it up as an 85 Silverado, so the Chevy direction is obvious. But, I've seen pics of the repro GMC grille that doesn't have any emblems on it and I like how clean it looks. It doesn't have the OEM emblem mounting locations molded into it which I like. I could even put my stock bowtie from the 85 grille I have on it if I wanted to. I prefer the look of the Chevy headlight doors with it's wide chrome strip between the upper and lower lights vs. the GMC look of the all-darkened treatment. I don't know if the Chevy doors with the GMC grille would look weird or not flow well. And for some odd reason, I've seen the GMC setup for $20 less than the Chevy one. The blank GMC setup would be different yet stock looking.
It's my truck but I value the opinions on here. Thanks for your input.
