OK. i did a new intake Edelbrook and it the aftermarket one very nice. my question is there are two hoses that are 5/8 id guess. and they where going into the intake what do thise go to on the intake and there is also a vacum line going from a tee in the intake and then out again. ive lef it disconnected and ran it. i ran just fine but it revs a little higher..?

also did new plugs and wires, and new oil...

my new question is..

what tranny do i have withmy 454 engine...? its all stock so im wondering what this truck came with...

i was goin to do the tranny fluids also but they asked me if i had the 400 or the 700r4 tranny..?

any guess...?

Don't leave a vacuum line loose.  If it idles higher that means you've created a vacuum leak.  Fix it.

Looks at the pics on this page for radiator/heater hose routing (and also for inspiration ;D): http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=5723.135

Identify your trans by the shape of the pan:

It's probably a TH400 unless someone has swapped in something else.

The TH400 is a heavy duty 3 speed (ratios: 2.48, 1.48, 1.00).  If you want strength and gas mileage is not terribly important, this is the one for you.  It has no torque converter lockup.

There is also an electronic overdrive version of the TH400 called the 4L80E.  It is still in use today in 3/4 and 1 ton GM trucks.  In order to use this one you'll need an aftermarket trans controller or switch to full manual valve body (must always shift the trans yourself).

The TH700R4 is a lighter duty 4 speed (ratios: 3.06, 1.63, 1.00, 0.70).  It offers improved gas mileage through overdrive and lockup torque converter.  In stock form it is not a wise choice behind any big block, but it can be beefed up to live behind mild big blocks.

If the truck is just for towing/cruising/goofing off around town, the TH400 is the one you want.
