« on: December 20, 2009, 10:09:00 am »

This is My 78 Step Side that I have owned 20+ years. Powered by a 406 SBC with a 100 shot. Best time so far 11.29 @ 117. Future upgrades include a 9 inch Ford Rear end and a roll cage. Comments or Suggestions Welcome.

Nice ride. What size wheel and tire combo are you running? How is the rear suspension set up?

Rear supension is stock 12 bolt rear with overload leaf removed, Cal-Trac's, and Rancho shocks. Wheels are Weld Draglites, 15 x 8 with 4.5 b.s. Tires are M/T Drag Radials size is 295/65-15...works well with the 4.10 gear and the 100 shot, runs thru the traps @ about 6000 rpm. The wheels are 4.75-4.50 b.c (car pattern). I ordered the the Moser c-clip axles drilled for both the 5 on 5 pattern and the 4.75 x 5 pattern. I could not find the size of wheel that I wanted it that style with 5 on 5 pattern, I know that they made them at some point in time, but they are hard to find.

Heres a pic showing it coming out of the hole, looks like the suspension is working fairly well...but there is always room for improvement.

Vortec heads, huh?  Do you mind me inquiring about your engine combination?  Have you had it dyno'd?

BTW killer truck and welcome aboard.

The heads are actually Edelbrock E-Tec Aluminum with 200 cc intake runners... they use the same intake bolt pattern as the Vortec's. Intake by the way is a Super Victor single plane, carb is a 750 Holley HP Series, Cam is a Lunati VooDoo Hydraulic Flat Tappet .241 deg. @ .050 lift intake and exhaust .525 lift on the intake and .540 lift on the exhaust thats with 1.6 rockers. The bottom end is a Eagle cast crank, eagle SIR 5.7 rods and flat top forged pistons. Block is a 4 bolt main 0 decked bored .030 over making it406 cu in. For the exhaust I am using Hooker Super Comp 1 3/4 tube headers with 3 inch collectors, Torque Tech 3 inch x-pipe and flow masters with turn downs. Also I am running an Edelbrock performer nitrous plate kit (100 shot).

OK cool.  If you had told me iron vortecs my next question was going to be about the porting, but E-Tec 200's make more sense.  Thanks for sharing your combination.  I'm always interested in engine specs and even more so when we're talking about engines powering 11 sec trucks.

Have you considered trying the new "perimeter discharge" plate from ZEX?  I've heard it's worth more power at the same shot level over other designs.

I am pretty new to nitrous and the kit that is on it was given to me by a friend of mine. Needless to say I am totally hooked on it now. I have to be very careful because I am pushing the envelope as far as being legal because of no roll bar. The other issue is I'am not sure how much the cast crank will take. so I think I will leave it as is right now.

Nice ride QuikTruck!! I have a few questions...is she mainly for the strip with some street time or mostly street with some track time? Reason I ask is I was wondering about the street manners of the ET radials on a regular basis, wet or dry, descent traction or not. If they ever make them to fit my rims, I thought about trying them out.

Thanks for the complement. Most of the street driving I do is driving to and from the track, thats about a 15 mile round trip. I don't ever drive in the rain so I couldn't reall tell how the tires do in the weather. They do work great on dry pavment aired up. I take a air tank out to the track with me and when I am ready to head home I just air them back up. I also might add that I do run a regular passenger car radial up front 215/70 on a 6.00 inch rim.
