i have been talking to a guy that has a 93 gmc 4x4 6.2 diesel, all it needs for a sticker is a water pump (he already has a new one) and the donut gasket leaks. it has a 4" magnaflow exhaust, new brake and fuel lines, new gas tank and sending unit, and he repaired the rockers...it has 150,000 miles and the injection pump was changed 20,000 miles ago and he said it runs and drives great...i wanted to know if you guys think it would be worth trading my truck for....ill try to post pics when he sends me some

Generally speaking if it is running it should be fine. After 1987 the major problems with them were fixed.

Same as with any truck up here. Check frame, brake lines, cab corners, rockers, floor boards, etc. Before I decided to fix my truck, I had looked for vehicles up to late 90's, a bunch were as bad or worse than my '73. Don't forget, there is a reason he wants to get rid of his truck.

ya ill deffinetly check that stuff. he just changed the brake lines, fuel tank and sending unit, so i dont have to worry about those...he told me he has 3 diesels and he doesnt use this one anymore so he wants to sell/trade it, and he wants to trade for my truck because he wants to rebuild his 78 gmc...so if we trade ill be keeping the engine in my truck and rebuild it with the engine parts i already have, then sell the engine for a profit...probably be able to get atleasst $500 for it

No, it is generally cause by worn dampners on old engines. It is said the 88-93 versions updated.

DEFINITELY not. they were for MPG's not power. The Duramax was designed to compete with the Powerstroke/Cummins.

The 93 6.2L puts out 143 hp / 257 lb·ft. This will have less power than a 93 350 Gas motor with 210hp. But gas mileage will be higher.

Much higher mileage, my father in law is a mechanic at a lime and rock plant owned by certainteed, he LOVES the 6.2/6.5 diesel, mainly because of its mileage and long term reliability. He has an '89 with a 6.2 and 700r4 that gets mid-upper 20's mpg with 250k+ miles, and a 96? i think with a 6.5 that does a little worse mileage wise, but has a load more power. Course, he also has very little appreciation for any cummins short of the qsk 19-700. He also likes the power output of the powerstroke in the 1 ton ford van they have, but he hates the reliability or lack there of, as he usually puts it. Hes real impressed with the volkswagen jetta TDI they just bought awhile back..I was real impressed with it when i got to ride in it. 50+ mpg at 80+ mph.

ya its a 92 not 93...sorry i thought it was a 93, i think for performance wise from best to worst it goes duramax, cummins, then powerstroke and from sound i think it goes cummins,duramax,powerstroke....ford has to put twin turbos on their engines while duramax and cummins only have one and powerstoke still has less power then duramax and cummins....i would love to have an 06 gmc 2500hd 6.6L duramax with the allison tranny
