Clearance light help
« on: January 27, 2010, 08:44:43 pm »
I was looking at getting some cab lights for my GMC K10 and dont know wether to buy a kit or lights seperately.  And would also like to know how to install them.  I already know how to splice into my wiring harness to give them power but would like to know how to fasten them to the roof and how to run the wiring.

As far as installing them you need to hole saw 5 holes in your roof, then drill 10 holes one on each side of the holes to screw them down. You will need to run a wire down from them inside the A pillar to your head light switch. I am not sure if GM still offers the lights but they are available after market.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

I have installed cab lights on trucks at my old employer and we just ran the wires between the roof and headliner and pillar cover. Not sure what to do if you dont have those.

That's a good question because when I was in high school, I installed cab lights in my 1987 F#@% F250 which didn't have a headliner and I couldn't figure out how to fish the wires across the roof to the A pillar. Long story short, I had wires that were visible inside the truck... dumb kids, LOL!

take your sun visor off the driver side and you can fish the wire inside the a post the roof is doubled so you can hide everthing you should have a whole under the dash above the e brake pedal to fish the wires out to the headlight switch
