Header Suggestions!
« on: February 03, 2010, 08:05:43 pm »
Well lookin to upgrade my headers since everything is tore down for a cam swap, i have a 73 k20 4 speed with straight plugs 350,no a/c. I currently have the dynomax  1 1/2 primary tube sized headers, that pretty much look like crap after about 700 miles,go figure, well anyway, looking to step up to some large tube headers that are ceramic coated and was curious who has had the best luck when it comes to diffrent header makes for the best fit! just to note i had no probs at all with the fit of the dyno headers. i have heard some ceramic coated headers and alot better made then others, thought this would be the place to ask, thanks guys!!

I run Hooker super comps on my truck I love em! Mine aren't coated though. But Hooker is my preference.

They fit real good from underneath, seal good, and have a thicker flange. They're gettin rusty, but I don't care.

I have Hooker Super Comp ceramic coated headers on my 69 camaro. They fit great but for $600 I wasn't thrilled with the coating that they used.

When I got my camaro it had a set of Hooker super comp non coated headers that were wrapped with header wrap. They worked great as far as fit and they were leak free. They were on the car since the late 70's.
When I changed motors a few years ago I figured I would upgrade the headers. $600 later and after 1 summer of driving the coating started to get a wearthered look to it. I drive the car daily in the nice weather so I know that wear and tear is unavoidable but for $600 I expected more.
I had similar experiences with the coating on the Dynomax headers on my truck. They were cheaper than the Hookers but they started peeling as soon as they were installed (I'm going to pull them out and use the header wrap on them to cover them up).
If your headers fit good and are leak free I would consider wrapping them in the header wrap and saying some $$.
