Heater Case mounting clip/stud
« on: February 08, 2010, 09:02:05 am »
Hoping someone can help me.

One of the three metal clip/studs on my 1989 r2500 (old body style) heater case broke while removing the case to change the heater core. My GM dealer is telling me they're discontinued and my local parts stores can't get them. I don't want to pull a heater box in a salvage yard if I don't have to.

Anyone know where I can get a new one?

Are you talking about the stud that goes through the firewall?

Yes. The case has three of the stud/clip pieces. They clip onto the case.

I just weld a 1/4 20 bolt shank onto mine when they break. if the clip part breaks you can use a Jesus clip and weld the bolt to that. Have done that a few times too. If you don't have a welder I am thinking a welding shop wouldn't break a $5 bill for doing it if you already have the head cut off the bolt.

Thanks Blazin. That was going to be my next step. I just hate to waste my time (didn't care so much about my time before I had kids) doing that when a person should be able to buy one new for under a buck.

I can't believe they can't be bought anywhere. They only use a billion of them over the years on different vehicles. Looks like the grinder and welder will come out tonight but I will continue my search for a new part.

Thanks again!

I am sure they can be bought some where, Lawson, PAI, or Doorman? But the time you spend looking you could probably repair them.
