to tub or not to tub?

anyone on here have their truck tubbed out? i'm looking into it... i'd like to see some others. there's one up for sale locally to me that i considered using as a project goal before my truck gets put in the shop next week

Yes. Since my fuel tank is on the right side, I figured I'd just relocate the battery to the left side. Didn't want it in the bed since I do occasionally haul stuff back there and don't like the look of an exposed box.

1) Are you sure tubbing is really the best thing to do at this point?  Yes, i am your father.


2) Since she brought it up, let's hi-jack and discuss fast and easy ways to go prostreet with these trucks;  One thing i like about these trucks is you don't even have to cut the frame to get large tires on the back.

a) Install a S10  8.5 inch 10 bolt rear;  The stock spring location remains the same on the truck, we would just have to weld on new spring pads onto the axle from the s-10?

b) Get a one-ton chassis cab, then take off both of the dual wheels and in their place use a 15x10 wheel with the right offset.  Then put a bed on the back.  We would need to enlarge the wheel tubs, but that's not a big deal.  i especially love this idea.

i'm thinking on it. since the truck is pretty much just the cab now that's original, i'm thinking about different options... there's one for sale locally that's tubbed,and that thing is awesome. so that's given me the idea to maybe go for it. the cab is the only thing on the truck right now, the engine is going to a machine shop hopefully tomorrow if the weather holds off. the place it's at now has had it since the 2nd week of november, and when i went to check in on the progress, nothing had been done. so i'm gonna tow it out and take it to a more reputable shop.

for 2k, they pretty much said tehy'd get the truck running safely, etc, and in primer. i didn't think that sounded too unreasonable. but i'm gonna shave the handles, maybe the tailgate, and i want to dye the interior to match and make sure the frame is coated. after a headache with kbs, i got some, but after some rude customer service when the product didn't arrive, i don't think i'd be dealign with them again.

income tax, ;).

not having so much of a financial issue, as a health issue. but if i'm spending the money i want it done right, and of course i wanna stretch my money as far as i can. i've bartered a good bit, cuz i airbrush, so plenty of people are more than willing to trade that up in excess cuz they can't do it. there's more rednecks and wrenches here than there are decent painters, let alone with a resume like mine and the talent i got in my trigger finger. but it doesn't look like it's gonna get done so soon, so i'm going to take my time and finish it the way i want it. the weather is screwing things up the worst right now cuz i got the rad support, inner fenders, etc all done with por15 and then it started getting too cold to paint. so i got all the stuff to clean and coat my frame sitting in the box. screwed with no garage right now...

What size tubs did you use?  I see CE's 40" ones for around $80, then there's the 43" ones for $177.  It looks like we need the bigger ones for these trucks.  I'm planning to go stepside, so I'm holding off on buying tubs.  For now I've just settled for hacked stock tubs...just to make it to a few races this month.

They are the 43" aluminum ones and the installed measurements are 43" L x 20" W x 14" H

y tud im runnin 13.6 s no tub on a custem 12bolt and runnin street drag radils but i dont no any thing 765 bowtie performance trans and 432 cid stroker

well i'm going to tow my truck home, and plan on putting it back together in my spare time in the driveway. so i was contemplating doing this and trying to plan on what parts i need to start stacking in the garage

1) First off, i'm curious why do you want to do this;  Tubbing is completely unessesary for the street.

a) Plus, i don't think it looks right unless the front wheels are tucked in also which means more money, time, and work.

i'm on the fence if i even want to or not. there was a 79 like mine for sale here a little bit ago, it was tubbed real nice. it interested me, but as this is my first buildup on 4 wheels instead of 2, i have no clue waht i'm getting into. that's why i asked.
