Instrument lights not working question
« on: February 17, 2010, 10:40:11 am »
Ok so I had a guy look at my wiry wiring (LOL!) And after a while got my aftermarket gauges to light up.

But the main instrument panel lights do not light according to what he told me was because one of the socket bulb things (don't know the correct term for those) is missing and the other, he explained that in the back middle of the board the previous owner beat up the board pretty badly and did some damage to it.

He also explained that if the board does not have all it's bulbs sockets connected it won't light up.

So I understood it to be that if you are missing a bulb socket and the board does recognize that then it does not work.

Is this information correct?

Meanwhile I will be looking for another instrument board that has not been destroyed (LOL!).

The lights are in parallel, the info is incorrect. If there where only one working bulb and the rest were empty, it would still light. If the circuit board is messed up in the middle, that is where the grounds and hots emanate out of the connector, that would be a problem.

Check the 5 amp fuse first.  Another common problem is the light switch dimmer.
