changing axle shaft
« on: February 26, 2010, 08:03:26 am »
I need some tips on the changing axle shaft on the driver side. I read the instuctions from several manuals already. Previous owner beat it back in and chewed up the splines. The locking hub doesn't work  now. I plan on using new locking hubs on both side.

thanks

front or rear?   what axle is it? (dana44, 60, 10 bolt?)

it's a fairly straight forward job.

jack and support axle
remove wheel
remove caliper
remove hub
remove hub lock nuts and other internals
remove spindle
remove backing plate bolts
remove backing plate
remove axle

reverse order to put it back in.

a thread on it:

Thanks for reminding me about the need to do mine! I really didnt forget, the weather isnt cooperating and for the past month I've been back at school eating up ALL my free time. On top of that, I need to change my timing belt on my civic. Who invented 24 hr days? Its not enough! Good luck and report back when your finished! Pics are always welcomed.
