fuel sender, selector or valve?
« on: March 10, 2010, 03:31:46 pm »
Have had my 'old girl' almost since new.  (First owner was a friend).  '83 K20 4x4 Camper Special with dual tanks that I have always religiously alternated between.  Last year flipped the selector switch to LH and gauge moved briefly then defaulted to "E" - where it has stayed when on LH even after replacing the selector (twice) and the valve body (again - and boy do I hate that job). RH works just fine.

'Thinking now that it must be the sender - although given the way it failed it doesn't make sense to me.  I suppose I could run the RH dry, switch and see  if it works but that could end up being the wrong thing to do too.

Before I drop the tank and replace the sender 'would love to hear opinions on the liklihood of this fixing the problem.  Have confirmed that there is power to the selector.  Replaced both senders about 12 years ago (took the box off to do that and wouldn't do that again).

Don't really *need* the other tank and so I have procrastinated on the fix.  But I hate having to be looking for fuel whenever she gets south of half.
I have managed to keep everything working and in good repair for almost 20 years and this just bugs me.

All help much appreciated.
